Elon Musk is amplifying a New Yorker investigation into Sam Altman’s alleged deceit on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), just as Musk's legal battle with OpenAI and Altman begins. The New York-based tech magnate, who owns X, posted an April 6 article by Ronan Farrow promoting the exposé, citing its accuracy in calling Altman a 'scam'. The move comes amid ongoing litigation over alleged misappropriation of funds.
The New Yorker's piece details a wide-ranging investigation into Altman’s leadership at OpenAI and his actions as CEO. Musk's support for the article appears to be part of his broader legal strategy, though X has yet to comment on the post or its policies regarding boosted content.
Despite not being labelled as an ad, users who clicked on Farrow's post saw options like ‘report ad’, highlighting how X navigates between transparency and commercial interests. The trial itself is a contentious affair, with potential jurors expressing reservations about both Musk and AI technology in general.
Musk’s lawsuit accuses OpenAI of failing to stick to its original non-profit mission, arguing that his investment was misused while the company now operates as a major enterprise. In response, OpenAI maintains that it always intended to scale up to achieve its goals.
