President Donald Trump has publicly called for the firing of Jimmy Kimmel after the late-night host made a joke about First Lady Melania Trump looking like an “expectant widow” in a skit about the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The comment came two days before a gunman attempted to assassinate President Trump and other administration officials at the event, prompting immediate concern over safety.
Trump’s response was swift and harsh: 'Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.' He deemed Kimmel's joke as 'far beyond the pale' and an incitement to violence. The First Lady herself weighed in on social media, stating that enough was enough and it was time for ABC to take a stand against Kimmel’s ‘atrocious behavior.’
The incident has sparked renewed debate about the line between satire and incitement, especially as concerns over Trump's health have been mounting. It remains unclear how seriously he takes these jokes, but his reaction suggests he sees them as a personal threat.
Disney’s response has been muted so far; they suspended Kimmel in September after another incident involving his comments about the alleged shooter of Charlie Kirk. However, Kimmel was quickly reinstated following pressure from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. This latest controversy may test both the network and Kimmel's relationship with Trump more seriously.
