A jury has been chosen for the first trial between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, with some jurors voicing concerns about both the tech mogul and artificial intelligence itself. Despite these reservations, they assured the court they would remain impartial.
During the selection process, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers highlighted that while many may not like Musk, his personal opinions should not influence their ability to decide the case fairly. The jury will determine whether OpenAI’s leadership improperly steered the company away from its mission goals, but this decision remains advisory as the judge holds ultimate authority.
The nine jurors selected come from diverse backgrounds and include a painter, a former Lockheed Martin employee, and a psychiatrist. While some expressed negative views on AI technology, they all pledged their commitment to impartiality. OpenAI’s attorney, William Savitt, expressed confidence in his team’s case, stating that the truth would prevail.
Musk has already been advocating for his cause through social media, promoting an investigation into Altman's business practices. Meanwhile, protesters outside the court called for a halt to AI development altogether. The actual trial is set to begin tomorrow with opening statements and the first witness scheduled to testify.
