A federal judge is set to decide on a request from over 30 states to break up ticketing giant Live Nation and its partnership with Ticketmaster. The states are asking for more than just the sale of venues, but also limits on promotional services tied to ticket access.
The initial settlement only included offloading exclusive booking arrangements at some amphitheaters, leaving out the full breakup proposed by states like California. It’s unclear how far Judge Arun Subramanian will go in his ruling.
Additional requests include remedies for specific trial allegations such as preventing venue retaliation and conditioning concert bookings on ticketing platform use. The states are also seeking monetary relief to make up for overcharges on ticket fees.
Live Nation has vowed to contest the verdict, making this a significant moment in the ongoing battle for fair access to live music events.
