Smart lighting firm Govee has apologized after a marketing image featuring books with the words “white supremacy” on their spines appeared on its US website. The image, which showed the books alongside children's toys, raised concerns among readers and critics alike.
The Verge first reported the controversy, noting that the offending image lacked essential watermarking data indicating whether it was an AI-generated piece. Govee’s PR manager, Connie Liu, explained that the image was sourced from a third-party library but admitted that internal review processes had failed to catch the issue.
When contacted by Ars Technica, Liu promised immediate action to improve these processes. However, questions remain over whether human oversight is part of Govee’s workflow and how they ensure their materials are free from offensive content.
