Penske’s Greedy Grip on Digital Gold

Is editorial freedom just a click away from extinction?

Penske Media Corporation has taken another big bite out of the digital media world, acquiring Vox Media's portfolio. With sites like Eater and The Verge now under its tentacles, PMC is set to become the largest digital publisher on the planet. What does this mean for journalists and editorial independence? Only time will tell.

In other arts news, the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation has awarded $4.5 million in grants for climate initiatives, while the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture adds to its impressive collection with works by Tschabalala Self and Simone Leigh. Meanwhile, Meow Wolf's quirky art collective is celebrated on The Simpsons, earning a coveted 'couch gag' for their immersive installations.

The acquisitions continue as the McNay Art Museum acquires Edra Soto’s “Screenhouse” (2019), and the Achenbach Foundation exhibits Lorenzo Tiepolo’s drawing at San Francisco's Legion of Honor. The Curatorial Program for Research also names its residents for the 'Hello New York!' residency, further diversifying the art world.

Elsewhere, Soyoung Yoon is appointed director of the Whitney Museum's Independent Study Program, and artist Ygor Landarin joins Galeria Galatea. Villa Albertine announces its 2027 residency cohort, a mix of visual artists who will bring fresh perspectives to the table.
