Lucid Motors has issued a recall for over 4,000 of its Gravity SUVs after discovering improperly welded seat belts. The issue, identified during unrelated safety testing in January, poses a risk that passengers may not be adequately secured in the event of an accident.
The problem stems from a supplier's undisclosed change to their manufacturing process, which Lucid Motors claims has now been reverted back to its original specification. However, affected SUVs will need inspections and potential repairs—either a bracket or replacement seat belt—to ensure passenger safety.
While this latest recall might seem like more bad news for the company, it’s important to remember that even in an era of advanced automotive technology, basic safety measures remain crucial. The incident raises questions about supply chain transparency and quality control in the automotive industry.
The affected Gravity SUVs are those manufactured before February 14, 2026, giving Lucid Motors a substantial timeframe to address the issue. Despite the inconvenience for owners, it’s reassuring that safety remains the priority—no matter how high-tech the vehicle may be.
