FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez is spearheading a fight against what she perceives as an onslaught on press freedom. Since 2023, Gomez has been vocal about the perceived censorship against networks like ABC under Chairman Brendan Carr’s tenure.
Gomez has warned Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro of a 'sustained, coordinated campaign of censorship' by the FCC over its perceived control of broadcast media. Her actions highlight a stark contrast with her chairman, who seems to have an agenda that goes against traditional press freedom norms.
Despite the risks, Gomez remains undeterred. ‘This is a fight worth having and one that I am confident you will win,’ she told D'Amaro in a letter. Her stance on this issue could shape not just media regulation but also the broader landscape of free speech in America.
Gomez’s role as a commissioner, alongside her colleagues, involves voting to adopt new rules or approve major mergers. However, it is clear that under current leadership, the FCC's actions have sparked significant debate and tension within the media industry.
