Google is revamping how it handles app store billing worldwide, replacing the flat 30% rate with a more flexible system that could see developers receiving larger cuts from their apps.
The new structure will depend on factors like when a user first installed an app and whether they use Google’s own billing system or another. For the most lucrative apps, the company is setting rates as low as 10% for subscriptions and 20% for in-app purchases.
But there's more to it than just money. Google has introduced new programs for exceptional apps that meet certain criteria, promising even lower fees. The changes will roll out over several phases, starting with some areas by the end of September.
This move could potentially open up more opportunities for developers and users alike, but only time will tell if it’s a genuine shift or just another tweak in Google’s ecosystem.
