Lettuce and salad greens are the prime suspects in an explosive outbreak of Cyclospora, a diarrheal parasite. Michigan has seen a surge from typical 50 cases to 3,309 this year, with 44 hospitalizations.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services points to lettuce as common among sickened individuals, though no definite product has been identified yet. Taco Bell is also under suspicion, citing a nationwide recall affecting their produce.
No official recall exists, leaving the mystery unsettled. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
Bagdasarian, Michigan’s chief medical executive, advises Michiganders to take protective measures for family health, reflecting the ongoing uncertainty and need for transparency in such outbreaks.
