The National Transportation Safety Board has revealed that a driver involved in a fatal crash with a Tesla, which killed a grandmother, engaged the car’s accelerator fully just before impact. This contradicts the driver's initial claims that Autopilot was active.
Elon Musk and Tesla had previously disputed these claims, citing the slow speed of FSD through residential areas where the high-speed crash occurred. The NTSB report supports their stance, finding that the driver manually overrode Full Self-Driving by pressing the accelerator to 100%.
In a twist, it was revealed that the driver, Michael Butler, was working as a DoorDash driver at the time of the accident. Local ABC News reports suggest he claimed to have passed out and had no memory of the events leading up to the crash.
This latest revelation underscores the risks associated with over-reliance on autonomous driving features. While Tesla continues to promote its advanced technologies, incidents like these serve as stark reminders that human intervention remains crucial.
