Network giant ABC has formally opposed an FCC move to force early renewal of its broadcast licenses, alleging retaliation for disliked content.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ordered the early renewals after investigations into alleged violations, including DEI program issues. ABC claims this is a ‘punitive’ move targeting its network and owner Disney, as part of broader efforts to silence speech.
More than 150,000 public comments have poured in supporting ABC, with many former FCC officials slamming the agency's actions as politically motivated. Critics compare these moves to a media blacklist under the Trump administration.
The battle has raised concerns about freedom of expression and media independence, with ABC warning that such tactics could chill journalism across America.
