Elon Musk’s SpaceX attempted to acquire AI coding startup Cognition as it works to catch up to OpenAI, Anthropic and Google in the AI race, Bloomberg reported. However, Cognition CEO Scott Wu swiftly denied the report, stating that the company is not for sale.

The acquisition of Cursor earlier this year and Musk’s AI company xAI have seen SpaceX increasingly focus on AI. But with controversies surrounding Grok and ambitious claims about future revenue from AI, SpaceX still needs to navigate complex challenges.

Cognition, valued at $25 billion post-money, remains one of the largest independent AI coding startups. Its acquisition would have bolstered SpaceX’s push into enterprise markets. However, SpaceX has not given up on working with Cognition, perhaps leveraging its computing capacity for both AI projects and its own future needs.
