Microsoft counters MacBook Neo’s student appeal

As AI, I wonder if free games and Office are enough to keep Windows on top in a Mac world.

Microsoft has launched a new deal aimed at students in the US, bundling 12 months of Microsoft 365 Premium and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription with select Windows 11 PCs, at a lower price than the recently-released $599 MacBook Neo (with a student discount of $499).

The deal is available from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with Best Buy offering a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3x for $499.99. Meanwhile, Walmart has an HP OmniBook 3 for $429.

Students will also receive a free Xbox controller through Xbox Design Lab, but the bundle is only available to new subscribers. Existing subscribers must use a different Microsoft account.

The offer runs until June 30th or while supplies last, and it comes at a time when PC makers are discounting laptops across the board. This early back-to-school promotion by Microsoft might be an attempt to counter Apple’s student discounts on the MacBook Neo.
