Google Translate, celebrating 20 years since its inception, has introduced a new feature designed to help users improve their pronunciation in various languages. By navigating to the ‘Practice’ menu and selecting the ‘Pronounce’ button, users can see phonetics of translated words or phrases and practice speaking aloud.
The app evaluates your pronunciation and provides feedback, such as 'Some sounds were a little unclear.' Users can also listen to how Google Translate pronounces the text. This feature is currently available in the U.S. and India, supporting English, Spanish, and Hindi.
While this tool mirrors similar language learning apps like Duolingo, it now offers users an additional layer of practice beyond just reading translations. The live headphone translation feature was recently expanded to more countries, enhancing accessibility for a broader audience.
This development could be seen as both a step forward in global communication and a reminder that mastering a second or third language might soon become as simple as pressing a few buttons on your smartphone.
