Google has announced an update for its NotebookLM tool, enhancing it with Gemini 3.5 as the default model and introducing new features to assist users in their research endeavors.
The latest iteration allows users to initiate a conversation about a project with the app, which will then suggest sources and help build knowledge bases using its advanced research capabilities and Google Search integration. This could be particularly useful for those working on projects where primary sources are needed or when exploring new themes related to existing authors.
Not only can users now provide detailed instructions to NotebookLM to generate outputs in various formats, but they also retain the ability to edit these once created. The updated tool supports exports ranging from data visualizations and charts to documents, structured data, and even Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint files, all powered by Antigravity technology.
The introduction of a 'Deep Research' mode further aids users in verifying the app's answers through detailed steps shown within the chat interface. This not only improves transparency but also fosters trust as researchers can trace the origins of their findings.
Currently available to select Google AI Ultra users and Workspace business customers with specific access levels, this rollout demonstrates a step towards making advanced research tools more accessible to a broader audience while maintaining high standards for accuracy and reliability in output generation.
